Charles Weir 1909-2012
It is with sadness that the family of the late Charles (Charlie) Weir of Pelley''s Island, NL, announces his passing at Valley Vista Senior''s Home on June 27, 2012 at the age of 102 years. Charlie was born at Sop''s Arm ''in the Bay''. In 1938 be married Edna Rice with whom he raised a family of five sons and five daughters. Charlie worked on the coastal boats during the World War11 and received recognition as a war veteran. He loved it on the water where he spent much of his life. He enjoyed fishing, rabbit hunting, berry picking and many other outdoors activities. He was a great story teller. He also loved a good nap. Charlie was an avid and faithful soldier of The Salvation Army; a committed member of the Men''s Fellowship and attended Sunday school on a regular basis. He was also a faithful brother in the Orange Lodge.
He was predeceased by his parents, Eleazer and Leah Weir; his wife Edna, a daughter Donna, and an infant daughter Linda. He leaves to mourn his children: Eileen(Ron),Raymond(Bessie),Pearce(Lori), Rose(Gordon),Shirley Baker, Roy (Roseanne),Marilyn(Wycliffe),Wayne(Pauline) and Eugene(Jackie); 29 grandchildren ,50 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren and a large number of other relatives and friends.
A wonderful celebration of Charlie''s life and home going was held The Salvation Army, Pelley''s Island on Sunday July 1, 2012 with Majors Marvin and Vera Youden officiating, with interment at the Salvation Army cemetery. Pallbearers were: sons Roy (Buddy) and Wayne, sons-in law Gordon Roberts and Ron Morrison, granddaughter Wanda Seitl and grandson Larry Lear.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Gail Noel and Harry Oxford of Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale.
