It is with sadness that the family of Charles Gabriel Ryan, age 67, of Roberts Arm, NL announces his passing on Remembrance Day November 11, 2022.  He leaves to remember with a life time of cherish memories, his wife Carla; son Ronald John (Jacqueline) Ryan; daughter Rebecca Ryan (Allan Larry). grand children Steven Lower, Emerson Ryan, Carlie Lower, Dominic Ryan; brothers Maxwell (Doreen) Ryan, John (Ruth) Ryan, Lloyd (Ping) Ryan, Sandy (Joan) Ryan, Adonnas (Pat) Ryan, Paul Ryan; sisters Olive Hammond, Phyllis (Lester) Hancock, Susan (Rayfield) Slade.

Charles is predeceased by his parents Ronald John and Stella Ryan; his Father-in-law Warner Goerg; brother-in-law Matthew Hammond; sister-in-law Patsy Ryan; Nephew Dion Ryan.

Charles was one of the strongest people in this world, you could equate his strength to a three-legged stool. You take away one leg, and the stool falls over, this was the effect Charles had on everyone that he was close to.

Although he lost his battle with cancer, he never lost his will to fight, he fought until the end. His cancer journey began in 2002 when diagnosed with Colon Cancer. Charles along with his wife - Carla, daughter – Rebecca and son – Ronald all took on the fight together. This fighting mentality carried the family through 9 years of Chemotherapy and Radiation from 2013 to 2022 when the therapies stopped working. His journey allowed him to focus on many of his passions, these were pivotal in keeping his spirits high. Charles kept his hands and mind busy by continuing to write music and play his many musical instruments, from guitars, to fiddles, to accordions. Charles had a knack for music and was a very talented musician. His hands were also busy with his woodworking, he valued being able to create something beautiful out of a block of wood or a tree burl. Charles was truly a man a many abilities.

The family of Charles have been extremely grateful to have had these additional 20 years. Over these years Charles was fortunate to meet, love, entertain, cherish, tickle, and laugh with his Daughter In-Law – Jacqueline, Son In-Law Allan and Grandchildren Steven, Emerson, Carlie and Dominic. He was able to watch them grow and to teach them the learnings of being out in the bush and on the water. Charles longed for sharing the knowledge he gained through his many years of Military service and serving with the RCMP in remote areas of the world. If you were lucky to hear his stories you would think that they were fairytales, but his life experiences were extraordinary.
