It is with great sadness that the family of the late Cecil Ernest Curlew, age 88, of Springdale, NL announces his peaceful passing surrounded by his family from the Valley Vista Senior Citizens Home, on Thursday, March 11, 2021.

Cecil Ernest Curlew was born on June 18, 1932 to Thomas and Martha Curlew, of St. Lunaire, Griquet. He was one of four children. Later in life Cecil was blessed to become a dad; he was a loving father to Judy, Pauline, Larry, Violet, Leon, Debi, and Cathy.  Not only was he a loving dad but a loving grandfather, great-grandfather, and father-in-law. He had 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Family was very important to Cecil and he would love to spend quality time with his family whenever he could. Whether that was to visit his children and grandchildren nearby or travel afar to see his children and grandchildren that lived in other parts of our country.

He was a very hard worker and spent most of his working years in the forest industry; Cecil worked as a logger all of his life until his retirement at the age of 61. After his retirement, Cecil, would love to spend hours out in the great outdoors. He had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, ice fishing with Shirley, berry picking with Judy, cutting firewood with Leon, and taking lots of nature walks with Debi, Cathy, and Violet. Cecil would also love to go with Pauline and Larry to get an ice cream whenever they could.

Cecil was a man of faith and loved to attend church; he was a faithful member of the Pentecostal Church in Springdale and had a great number of friends there. He loved his church family and the staff immensely.

He lived his life with anticipation for the day when he would depart his earthly home and go to his Heavenly home to meet His Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. What Cecil lived for by faith, has now become a reality.

Cecil is predeceased by his parents Thomas and Martha Curlew; brother Calvin Curlew.

He leaves to remember the wonderful life that he lived, sons Larry (Cheryl) Curlew, Leon (Shirley) Curlew; daughters Judy (Dave) Bishop, Pauline Curlew (Judy Cook), Violet (Harvey) Fowlow, Debi Curlew, Cathy Curlew; grandchildren April Pengelly, Jonathan Bishop, Ryan Fowlow, Jennifer Bishop, Michael Fowlow, Derek Curlew, Dylan Chaulk, Riley Rodrigues, Avery Rodrigues; great-grandchildren Sarah Pengelly, David Pengelly, Jaxon Fowlow, Lucas Fowlow, Kaleigh Bishop, Kolton Bishop, Jayla Bishop, Landyn Fowlow, Olivia Curlew, Carter Curlew; sisters Ethel Patey, Blanche Baker; special friend Bill Coombs; nieces and nephews, as well as other extended family and friends. He will be missed by his family and friends, but not forgotten.

The Celebration of Life service was held from Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale, on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Lindsey Foster officiating. Interment was at the Pentecostal Cemetery, Cherry Crescent, Springdale. Pallbearers were son and daughter-in-law Leon and Shirley Curlew; daughters Pauline Curlew, Violet Fowlow; friends Ford Young, and Allan Curtis. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Elaine M. Rideout and Harry Oxford of Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic guidelines, the viewing, the Celebration of Life Service and burial for the late Cecil Ernest Curlew will be for immediate family only in keeping with the current level of COVID 19 stipulations.

The Curlew family would like to offer special thanks to the caring staff of the Springdale Retirement Centre, where he spent his last seven years. A special thank you also goes out to the Valley Vista senior citizens home staff, where he spent the last month of his life. Your care and concern is so appreciated by the family.
