It was with great sadness that the family of the late Carl Saunders, age 80, of Springdale, NL announces his passing on August 13, 2016. Carl was born October 5, 1935 in Griquet, NL to the late Donald and Minnie Saunders. He grew up in Griquet and on January 17, 1957 he married the love of his life, Bernice.

Carl was a fisherman with his father and brothers for many years. After having their five children and running their own store he decided to move his family to Springdale in 1975. While in Springdale he was known by many and a friend to all. Always willing to help anyone out and open his home to travelers who needed a good meal and a place to lay their head. He was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and a faithful member of the Pentecostal Church. Carl was an avid Detroit Red Wings hockey fan. He also enjoyed berry picking. Carl always loved having plenty of family and friends around and he always loved a good laugh and often was known to play a practical joke or two. He was a hardworking unselfish man who loved his family and friends dearly. Even in his later years when he had many health problems he always had a smile and a laugh to share.

Carl was predeceased by his wife Bernice (Young) Saunders; parents Donald and Minnie Saunders; brothers Frank and Bruce Saunders; sisters Mae Earle and Ivy Saunders. He leaves to mourn daughters Hazel (Kerry), Pauline (Gerald), and Jennifer (Kelly); sons Austin (Deanne) and Dale (Roxanne); grandchildren Joshua, Diana, Brittany, Justin, and Zachery; great granddaughters Violet and Sage; sisters Jean (Bob) Mitchell, Winnie (Bert) Heath, and brother John Saunders and a number of close family and friends.

The Home Going service was held from Springdale Pentecostal Church, Springdale, NL on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at 2:00 pm with Pastor L. Foster officiating, assisted by Pastor N. Joy. Interment was at the Pentecostal Cemetery, Cherry Crescent, Springdale, NL. Pallbearers were sons Austin Saunders, Dale Saunders; sons-in-law Kerry Wellman, Kelly Smith; nephews Nelson Earle, Eldon Saunders. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Gail Hancock, Elaine M. Rideout and Harry Oxford of Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale, NL.
