It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Alwin Rideout (Chookie) announces his passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, on October 24, 2026, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL aged 85 years.

Alwin was the 5th oldest child of Ezra and Leah Rideout. He was born in Long Island on August 8th, 1941. The love of his life was Betty (Rowsell) Rideout and they were married on October 25th, 1963; together they brought their seven cherished children into the world. His family grew, and he was delighted to see his grandchildren arrive to brighten his life.

Alwin was a very hard worker (his work ethic is next to none). He provided and cared for his family. He enjoyed being around people at all times and his house was always open to anyone who wanted to visit, they were always sure to get a cup of tea and a lunch. Food was another important thing to Alwin, he enjoyed going to restaurants for steak dinners, and then go for his favourite dessert - Ice-cream and bakeapples.

One of the many things he cherished was his devotion to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a steadfast supporter of his church and missionaries across the world. What he once lived for by faith has now become his reality-safe in the arms of Jesus.

Daughter in law; Zena Newbury. Siblings; Bronson (Irene) Rideout, Frank (Mary) Rideout. Mother in law; Pearl Rowsell. As well as a large number of other extended family members, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by; his wife Betty Rideout (Nee Rowsell). Parents; Ezra and Leah Rideout. Siblings; Albert Rideout, Pearce Rideout, Florence Hatcher, Madeline Parsons, Ruby Barrett. Father in law; Ernest Rowsell.

The public visitation will take place on Monday, October 26th, 2026 from 7-9pm, and Tuesday, October 27th, from 2-4pm, and 7-9pm, at the Word of Life Tabernacle Church, Robert's Arm, NL.

Funeral Services will take place on Wednesday, October 28th, 2026 at 1pm at the Word of Life Tabernacle Church, Robert's Arm, NL, with Pastor Elaine Rideout officiating.

The interment will follow at the Robert's Arm Pentecostal Cemetery, Robert's Arm, NL.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a cause of one’s choice.
