Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Allan Edward Huxter of Springdale, NL, age 85, announces his passing on Friday, June 15, 2018 at the Valley Vista Senior Citizens Complex, Springdale, NL.

Allan was born to Howard and Mildred Huxter of Springdale. On August 22, 1953 he married the love of his life, Ivy Thorne. They were blessed with 7 children.

At the age of 14, Allan worked in the logging camp with his Dad as a cook's helper. Then later he went on to the Badger Logging Drive; then, was employed as a cook at Little Bay Mines until the closure of the mine. He then took a position with Allied Cleaning Services as a supervisor, looking after the cleaning of the school, this position he held until he formed his own business "Huxters Cleaning Services", servicing all schools and several business in Springdale and surrounding areas until his retirement.

Allan was a member of The Salvation Army Springdale Corps, he was one of the founding members of Men's Fellowship. One of his passions was looking after the cemeteries.

He also enjoyed camping with his family and friends at the Terra Nova National Park. He transformed a part of his homestead to a cabin at Indian River Pond and later built a cabin at Hydro Road until sickness took over his life.

He lived his life as an honest, hard working man and made many sacrifices for his family. He loved being a father and grandfather and spending time with his family. Some memories of being a grandfather were allowing the grandchildren to put makeup on him and doing his hair; taking them fishing; taking them on skidoo rides and so on. He loved playing Uno and Skip-bo with everyone and finding creative ways on winning!

Allan passed into the presence of the Lord at Valley Vista complex on June 15, 2018. Love and missed by his family and friends.

Allan is predeceased by his infant daughter Diane Huxter; parents Howard and Mildred Huxter; stepmother Pearl Huxter; sister Frances Pittman.

He leaves to remember the wonderful life that he lived, wife Ivy Huxter (64 years married); daughter Thelma (Tom) Ricketts; sons Arthur (Linda) Huxter, Jeffery (Joanne) Huxter, Bruce (Maureen) Huxter, Dwight (Joanne) Huxter, Andrew (Michelle) Huxter; sisters Betty Sharron, Verley Fesenko; grandchildren Stephen Ricketts, Heather Saleh, Jennifer Hrycuk, Sandy Huxter, Jamie Huxter, Jodi Stilwell, Geoff Huxter, Sydney Huxter, Cameron Huxter, Austin Huxter, Scott Huxter, Jayden Behm, Brice Huxter, Rylee Huxter; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild, as well as many other extended family members and friends.

The Promotion to Glory service was held from The Salvation Army, Springdale, NL on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at 2:00 pm with Major Gerald Lacey officiating. Interment was at The Salvation Army Cemetery, Cherry Crescent, Springdale, NL. The pallbearers were sons Arthur, Jeffery, Bruce, Dwight, Andrew; grandson Stephen. Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to Elaine M. Rideout and Harry Oxford at Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale.
